In 2023, they were facing significant HR challenges, with a limited talent acquisition process, relying solely on job postings. The company struggled to find suitable candidates, particularly for niche roles in the emerging hydrogen sector. Thyssenkrupp Nucera reached out to Pangea Talent Solutions for assistance in sourcing three contract managers. With the niche nature of hydrogen projects, few individuals possessed relevant experience. Furthermore, the roles were in remote areas of Spain, and the contractors needed to be fluent in German, meaning the search for talent willing to relocate was a challenge.

Pangea Talent Solutions devised a tailored approach to address the client’s needs. Pangea implemented a combination of job advertising and proactive headhunting to attract candidates. Pangea’s vast internal database of skilled candidates was also used to find the best applicants for the role.
Understanding that contractors with knowledge of hydrogen meant the pool of skilled talent in the market may be limited, Pangea suggested to Dietmar Collin, Head of Contract Management, that it would be useful to widen the search to include those with relevant renewable energy experience also. Pangea also invested time to understand Germany’s complex tax requirements to be able to communicate this to the candidates.
At each step of the selection process, Pangea introduced the candidate to the client over ‘Teams’ calls to ensure communication was open and the feedback was relevant. This meant that Collin was able to provide feedback on the skills and culture fit of the candidate efficiently each time.
RESULTS
Over the course of two months, Pangea successfully placed three contractors at Thyssenkrupp Nucera; one in Spain and one in Germany, with the flexibility to travel to Spain two/three times a month. The third contractor, where Thyssenkrupp Nucera was initially seeking a purely German speaker, was an English-speaking candidate. Pangea was sure that this candidate was the best fit for the role and although English was his first language, Collin was keen his join the team.
Through a combination of active recruitment methods, personalised candidate engagement, and adaptability to client needs, Pangea successfully placed three new hires within the growing hydrogen market. Pangea continue to provide valuable experience in niche industries within geographically constrained roles for clients such as Thyssenkrupp Nucera.
